While we already knew Jim Thome was headed to the disabled list, it now appears that Jason Kubel will be headed there as well. As recently as yesterday, Kubel was seen on the field without the boot he had fitted after his injury a few days ago, but now it seems as though the Twins will take precautionary measures and just shut him down for 15 days.
As mentioned this morning, Ben Revere is already on his way to meet up with the Twins to fill Thome's spot. But there isn't word currently on who will be recalled to take Kubel's spot. Luke Hughes will join him in place of Kubel.
Most interestingly, however, the Twins have also moved Joe Mauer to the 60-day disabled list. This does not remove Mauer from the 40-man roster, and the days he's already spent on the DL can be put toward his 60-day stint, so as Joe Christensen mentions he will be eligible to come off the DL no earlier than June 12. We mentioned last week that Mauer was still weeks from returning, and this seals that statement. It's likely Mauer will not return to the Twins the day he is eligible.
Any bets on which position player gets called up to Minnesota? With Mauer's removal from the 40-man roster, it does potentially make room for a player who isn't currently listed.
