"The Twins offense did nothing as the opponent eventually pulled away for an easy victory" is this week's theme at Twinkie Town, and we'd like to thank the Minnesota Twins for their strict adherence to it, as they lost this version of the same game they've played all week 8-1 to the Detroit Tigers.
Scott Diamond gave up 10 hits and wasn't especially great, but he made it to the 7th inning with only two runs allowed. That's damn near Medal of Honor material at this point of the season. Glen Perkins relieved him with the bases loaded and one out in the 7th, allowed an infield single to Delmon Young that made the score 3-1, got the second out, aaaaaannnnnd.......gave up a ground-rule double to Victor Martinez that sealed the deal. After that, a procession of relievers contributed to the shitshow to make what had been a close game into just another blowout.
The Twins had their chances on offense, putting runners on base constantly against Detroit starter Rick "Porky" Porcello in the first three innings. The results: a 2-out single from Drew Butera, a blown call on a Ben Revere grounder that would have plated a second run, and three double plays. Ol' Pork had little trouble after that..
Studs: I'm grading on a curve tonight, so Scott Diamond, you are the man.
Duds: everyone else in a Twins uni. Hey, at least they didn't trade Kubel, I guess.
Enjoy your weekend, everybody.
