Homepage Changes to Improve Scanning, and Better Highlight FanPosts and FanShots

In response to feedback received by SB Nation community members and site editors, SBN is preparing to roll out a revised home page layout across sites.

I'm not going to say much about this here, because I'd like to point you in the direction of the primary discussion over at The Blog Huddle. Of course you're welcome to leave comments and feedback below, but there's already a great discussion happening at the source. What I will do is give you the highlights.

Coming in January, SB Nation will be integrating updates to home pages (like Twinkie Town) to help scanning and to re-emphasize FanPosts and FanShots. Here's the run down of the things I think are the most important. (Be sure to follow that link to see a full list of coming updates.)

  1. FanPosts and FanShots sidebars will be moved to the right-hand side of the page and enlarged. The modules will be easier to see and, therefore, interact with.
  2. FanPosts can (and will) be featured in the cover. That means that, just like when we used to "Front Page" great content from our community members, we can take the best work from all of you folks and give it the recognition and attention it deserves. I'm exceptionally happy about this.
  3. There will be a "Community Widget", displayed on the right-hand side of the homepage, with easy access links to creating a FanPost or FanShot, see who is writing for the site on the Masthead, or to read community guidelines.
  4. The "River" (the stories below the "Cover") will be easier to scan, since the weight of the photos will be reduced and there will be more consistency with their presentation.

As far as I'm concerned, this is all great news. And I'm happy to see that SB Nation listened to the feedback you all have provided. Again, if you have any comments or feedback you're free to put them here - but also jump over to the source discussion where there are already a few hundred comments running.
