Twins Select Ryan Pressly from Boston Red Sox in Rule 5 Draft

Minnesota's Rule 5 selection: 23-year old right hander Ryan Pressly.

Ryan Pressly was an 11th round selection by the Red Sox in the 2007 draft. From Flower Mound in Texas, Pressly had climbed slowly but steadily through Boston's system since his 2008 debut. In his minor league career he's posted a 4.27 ERA in 447.1 innings, making 109 appearances including 82 starts.

His strikeout and walk rates have been fairly pedestrian throughout his minor league career, but in 2012 it's important to note that he made just 12 starts against 20 relief appearances. It's also worth noting that Pressly's highest level in the minors was the 14 relief appearances he made in Double-A this past summer.

There is a legitimate concern that Pressly will not last the month of April with the Twins, much less the entire summer, but it will be interesting to see exactly what the Twins thought they would have here.
