We've talked about this a lot over the last few weeks, but in the coming days we're finally going to have an answer to the question of whether any non-roster players manage to finagle themselves a roster spot. Over at SB Nation Minnesota the other day I talked about the five guys I thought to be the most likely candidates, and nothing has changed since then.
Brian Dozier, SS: Morneau's probable shift to designated hitter moves Doumit to the bench, and Revere's arm should keep him from starting in right field, meaning he'd be on the bench, too. Would the Twins keep a bench of Doumit, Revere, Hughes, and Butera? Or would they go with just one catcher, shift Casilla to the bench and give Dozier the everyday job at short?
Jared Burton and Casey Fien, RH RP: The bullpen is the biggest question mark on this team. With Kyle Waldrop suffering a setback, could this make one of these two a sure shot?
Sean Burroughs, IF: The Twins like what Burroughs can do. Is he worth losing Hughes? Because that's who would lose their roster spot.
J.R. Towles, C: If the Twins don't take Dozier and want to take three catchers, could they give Towles a look instead of the feather-hitting Butera? His minor league hitting track record hints there might be something special buried beneath his surface.
