Rays 1, Twins 0: Woops, Results Still Don't Matter

This photo isn't from today's game. This is Nick Punto. I just thought it'd be fun to share a photo of Nick Punto.

Francisco Liriano was apparently sharp this afternoon, striking out five en route to retiring nine batters through three innings of work. His one hit was erased on a double play, when Joe Mauer threw out Desmond Jennings trying to steal second in the first inning. The Twins would end up losing in the ninth, when Luke Hughes was unable to make an accurate throw to first base. Hughes' errant throw allowed Hak-Ju Lee to score, and that was the end of the scoring.

The Battle for Squatter's Rights

J.R. Towles: 1-for-2

Drew Butera: Not available

Highlights

Liriano: 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 5 K, 0 BB

Denard Span: 1-for-2, BB, 2 SB

Jeff Manship: 1 IP, 3 K

Lowlights

Offense: 5 hits, 0-for-6 with RISP

In the end, the best things to come out of this game (in order of importance) are that A) nobody got hurt, and B) Liriano had command of his pitches. Up tomorrow: the Twins take on the Cardinals at noon. Stu will be your conductor.
