There were just so many highlights in last night's win over the Yankees. Whether it was Jason Marquis just freezing a frustrated Curtis Granderson, Justin Morneau launching a pair of home runs into the New York night, Jared Burton throwing with swagger or any other number of moments, it was another great game by the Twins.
With at least a series split and a chance to take three of four from the Bombers in the Apple, who was your Player of the Game from last night?
Jason Marquis - Over at the Pioneer Press, John Shipley has a fantastic write up on Marquis and what he's been through with his daughter in conjunction with his big win. He allowed a trio of runs in the first, almost losing the four-run lead his offense gave him before he took the mound. But Marquis fought back and ended up allowing four runs off seven hits and two walks through five innings. Not the most impressive performance by the numbers, but if you watched last night's game you'll understand it's about a little bit more than that.
Justin Morneau - Our Canadian lumberjack was 3-for-4 with a walk, three runs batted in, and a pair of home runs. His two-run blast in the first put Minnesota up 3-0, and his solo blast in the fifth put the team up 6-4 but ended up being the difference. No doubt Justin loves hitting in that park.
Alexi Casilla - While he didn't actually pick up an RBI or score, Casilla's three-hit night kept Yankee hurlers working and kept the pressure on. He's now hitting .290 on the season.
Jared Burton - Retiring all four batters he faced, there was something different in the way Burton threw the ball last night. I said at the time that he was throwing with some swagger and it's hard to argue with his results. Finishing the seventh for Brian Duensing and throwing a perfect eighth inning, our non-roster invitee reliever might be pitching himself into an early stint as the right-handed set-up man.
