Josh Willingham came through for the Twins today in dramatic fashion with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning, marking the Twins' first walk-off win of the year. It was everything a Twins fan could have dreamed for. It was amazing. Electrifying. Like the Twins were a real, live, functioning major-league team.
Other than that brief moment, there were walks. Lots of walks. Between the Twins and the A's, there were 16 walks in this game. I followed the game on the radio with Danny Gladden and Cory Provus, and to be honest, I'm not even sure if anyone actually even ran?
Cole De Vries--Twins starting pitcher and Twin Cities native, making his home debut--pitched a fairly solid game by Twins-standards, going five innings while giving up no runs and only two hits (but, er, five walks). Glen Perkins, also a Twin Cities native, pitched a hit-less and score-less bottom of the ninth, and earned the win (but, er gave up three walks). Basically, walks. And more walking. Yawn.
