Over at TwinsBaseball.com, Todd Wills makes a brief mention of Joe Mauer's impending date with Minnesota Twins history. Primarily: that he's about to break Earl Battey's games caught record for the franchise. Mauer's already broken Battey's record for games started at catcher, as Mauer's now caught first pitch 798 times compared to the former great's 794.
In total, both Mauer and Battey have appeared as a catcher in 831 games. The next time Joe starts behind the plate, which will very likely be Monday night against the Mariners, he'll become the all-time franchise leader for games caught.
Mauer's 831 games behind the plate have netted him 7099.1 innings at the position, 351 more innings than Battey's 6748.1.
Joe Mauer is already one of the best hitters in the history of the organization, and before he turns 30 we're already getting to the point in his career where he's starting to set franchise-best marks.
