1993-1994.
That's the last time the Twins won 3 games in a row in Fenway Park. That's right, it was spread over two seasons, when the Twins won 5 in a row from Sept. 25, 1993 to June 15, 1994, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. It nearly didn't happen though, but a clutch 3-run homer by Joe Mauer with 2 outs in the 9th inning stole the victory away from the Red Sox.
Cole De Vries had the Twins in an early 2-0 hole after 2 innings, but he was able to shut the door after that. Carl Crawford gave the Sox an early 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the first inning, and then Mike Aviles added a solo homer to left field in the 2nd, but the Red Sox had only 3 more baserunners after that with De Vries on the mound.
Meanwhile, the Twins offense laid dormant until the 5th inning. Jamey Carroll had a 1-out single, and advanced to 2nd on a throwing error by Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz. Carroll then scored on an infield single by Ben Revere, aided by another throwning error that hit Revere on his way to first base, this time from catcher Kelly Shoppach.
The score remained 2-1 until the 8th inning, when reliever Andrew Miller entered the game to face the Twins' 4 lefties atop the lineup, Span, Revere, Mauer, and Morneau. Unfortunately for Miller, he failed to get the first three out as Span walked, Revere had another infield single, and Mauer also walked. Miller didn't even get a chance to face Justin Morneau, as Bobby Valentine chose to bring in his closer Alfredo Aceves for a rare 6-out save. However, it didn't take Aceves long to blow the save, as Morneau hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2. To Aceves' credit, though, he did get Ryan Doumit to pop out and pinch-hitter Josh Willingham to ground out to end the inning.
Glen Perkins entered for the bottom of the 8th inning, and Valentine countered by pinch-hitting Pedro Ciriaco for Ryan Kalish. This time luck was on the Red Sox's side, as Ciriaco took the second pitch from Perkins over the Green Monster in left field, his first career home run, which put the Red Sox up 3-2. The BoSox would later add a second run, making it a 4-2 game heading into the 9th inning.
This gave Aceves a second chance to nail down the victory, but once again he would fail to hold the lead. With one out, Alexi Casilla doubled down the right field line, and was quickly brought in on an RBI single by Jamey Carroll. Denard Span flew out for the second out, but Ben Revere staved off the defeat with a line drive single to center field, bringing up Mauer. On a 2-2 count, Mauer took a fastball just off the corner for ball three, and then deposited Aceves' full count offering over the Monster for a 3-run homer and a 6-4 lead.
Jared Burton came in to shut the door in the bottom of the 9th, and he set down the Red Sox 1-2-3 for his 5th save on the year.
