Hisashi Iwakuma wasn't untouchable on Friday night, but he was more than good enough to shut down the Twins in a 3-0 Seattle victory. Iwakuma made it into the 8th before being pulled for Charlie Furbush, and lowered his ERA to 2.13 on the season. The Twins threatened in both the 3rd (runners at the corners with 1 out) and 5th (runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs), but failed to follow through. Chris Parmelee getting thrown out on an infield grounder at the plate in the 3rd was about as close as Minnesota was going to get.
Mike Pelfrey, as is his wont, threw a bunch of pitches and somehow made it through five shutout innings. Once the 6th inning rolled around, however, he got tagged again, with a 2-run home run by Kendrys Morales opening the scoring. He allowed another single and a walk before giving way to Anthony Swarzak. Jesus Sucre's single plated the third Seattle run, and that was all the Mariners would need.
But hey, Caleb Thielbar pitched a 1-2-3 9th. Yay Caleb Thielbar!
