Twins 8, White Sox 4: Minnesota Pounds Four Homers Off Danks to Complete Sweep

HOW BROOM IS IT. That's the phrase, right?

USA TODAY Sports

Who thought it was ever a good idea to send Oswaldo Arcia down? I mean, seriously. Three more hits today means 10-for-27 (.370) since his return, with three walks, seven strikeouts, and four doubles. Oh, and one of the Twins four bombs today. In nine June games he's slugging .630. How long before he starts creeping up the lineup? At some point, if things keep going the way they are, Gardy will entertain the thought.

Scott Diamond wasn't particularly impressive today. Only Ryan Doumit catching Alexei Ramirez trying to steal in the fourth kept that inning in check. Minnesota was lucky the White Sox only scored one off of Trevor Plouffe's error. Back-to-back homers by Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn in the sixth ended Diamond's afternoon.

Minnesota's offense kept the pressure on though, and helped him escape with a win. Arcia homered in the bottom of the second to draw first blood, and later in the inning Brian Dozier launched a two-run shot to give the Twins a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Clete Thomas and Eduardo Escobar went back-to-back, giving the home town nine a boost after Diamond's rough top half. Justin Morneau and Arcia would add another run each.

Feel like watching some highlights? Here one. How about this diving catch from Dozier in the shift?

Others...

  • Joe Mauer picked up three hits of his own, including a double the sliced into the left field corner. His 22nd of the year.
  • Anthony Swarzak, Casey Fien and Jared Burton combined to throw 3.1 scoreless frames in relief.
  • Jesse Crain broke Chicago's record for consecutive scoreless appearances. Nice work, Trainwreck.
