Recap: Yankees 10, Twins 4: New month, same struggles for Jared Burton

Jared Burton's disastrous June looms into July. The Twins bullpen collapse in the eighth and ninth, lose 10-4.

Despite a Yankee team that was coming off a three game sweep and an abysmal month of June where they ranked dead last in runs scored, the bombers do what they do best, kicked around the Twins for a 10-4 win. Scott Diamond pitched well tonight despite Robby Cano taking him deep twice in the first three innings. Twins got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the first (Can we just take a moment and all laugh at Andy Pettitte's throw trying to throw out Arcia). Pettitte who came into today with a career 12-5 record and a 3.45ERA against the Twins, he pitched five innings today before the bullpen took over.

The game was tied 3-3 until Chris Parmelee who was 1/13 last week, but went 2-3 today had a solo shot in the 6th making it a 4-3 lead heading into the seventh.Scott Diamond looked like he had 7 innings locked in before Brett Garder roped a two out double to the gap. That is when Gardy gave the ball to, Casey Fien who needed just one pitch to finish the job. Although I can not read minds, I am sure no one was happier for the calender to turn to July then Jared Burton. Burton was apart of three loses last month, and for the second straight game; Burton is the losing pitcher.

It was Cano leading off with a double in the eighth, Ichiro would then enter the game as a pinch hitter, dropped down a bunt single moving Cano to 3rd. After two close pickoff moves, the third time was not the charm as the ball sailed in foul territory on the right side scoring Cano and moving Suzuki to third. By innings end, Jared Burton would leave with just a third of an inning, three runs earned. New York would score four more in the top half of the ninth and by the end of the night it was 10-4, with Mariano closing it out. Yankees 1, Twins 0.
