Today’s afternoon pitching matchup features Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco, who has had a less-than-stellar season thus far, and will be his first major league start since July 6. He’s 0-4 on the season with a 7.75 ERA. Carrasco did pitch last Friday against the Angels, when he came in in the 5th inning and held the Angels scoreless for the remainder of the game while only allowing 1 hit. The Twins will counter Carrasco with right-hander Kyle Gibson, who’s had his own struggles since being called up. Gibson is currently 2-3 since June 29, and is sporting a 6.43 ERA. In his first four starts as a Twins pitcher, Gibson hadn’t allowed a single home run. In the four starts since, he’s allowed seven home runs. Yes, you read that correctly. To be fair to Gibson, he was last facing a team in the Chicago White Sox that can hit those home runs to ruin your day, but that is something he’s going to have to make sure to limit today against the Indians.
