Twins Option Kyle Gibson to Triple-A Rochester

After another rough afternoon, the Twins have sent Kyle Gibson back to the Red Wings.

Sometimes, the players we think are ready aren't nearly as ready as we thought they were. Kyle Gibson gave up four runs off of ten hits in three and two-thirds innings this afternoon. It was good enough for the front office to send him down.

Gibson made ten starts for Minnesota, and it never got better than his debut. After just two quality starts and eight pretty unimpressive ones, he's surrendered 69 hits in 51 innings, striking out 29 and walking 20 en route to a 6.53 ERA.

Considering his draft position, his minor league numbers, and the deplorable state of the Twins rotation, it's easy to be disappointed by Gibson's results. But don't get too down. He's still just a rookie who's been back pitching in game situations for a year following Tommy John surgery.

Gibson's time will come. It just wasn't this year.
