Twins Sign Matt Guerrier to a Minor League Deal

The Twins announced Wednesday that they've signed former-Twin Matt Guerrier to a minor league deal and extended an invitation to spring training. Guerrier, a right-handed reliever, pitched for the Twins from 2004 to 2010 and will be reunited with his former teammates Jason Bartlett and Jason Kubel, who also signed minor league deals this off-season.

Guerrier told Twins beat-writer Rhett Bollinger that his familiarity with the organization was a big part of his decision to sign:

"It makes it super easy. ... I had a couple other options, but the main thing was I could go somewhere where these guys have seen me throw and know my mechanics when I'm throwing the ball well. Worst-case scenario, they can help me get better if my mechanics are off and I need to work on some things. I've worked a lot with Rick Anderson."

Guerrier is coming back from an injury to the flexor muscle in his right elbow, which he had surgery on in mid-August. The rehab time for the surgery is six months, but Guerrier says he is ahead of schedule and "feels great," which is a step below "in the greatest shape of my life," but we'll take it.

Last year Guerrier posted a 4.01 ERA with 30 strikeouts over 42 and 2/3rds innings with the Dodgers and the Cubs.

The deal seems pretty inoffensive, with a low risk and possible high reward. What are your thoughts on the signing?
