The Twins announced Friday that they have signed all-star closer Glen Perkins to a new contract that will keep him with the team through 2017. The new contract replaces the old one, which ran through 2015, and also gives Perkins a slight raise (because he's One Of Us).
Perkins, who is 31 years old, would have received $3.75 million per year for 2014 and 2015 under his old contract. Under the new contract, Perkins will get:
- $4.025 million in 2014
- $4.65 million in 2015
- $6.3 million in 2016
- $6.5 million in 2017
- $6.5 million in 2018, if club option is exercised
Congrats on the contract @glen_perkins - I look forward to you working on your fan mail at my desk for years to come! pic.twitter.com/pV9AqSOLef

In case you were wondering, Joe Mauer and Ricky Nolasco are the only other Twins signed through 2017.
