Nope. This is not a joke.

The Twins announced today that they have signed right-handed reliever Matt Guerrier to a minor league deal. Guerrier, 35, was released by his former team, the Minnesota Twins, yesterday.

Releasing Matt Guerrier and re-signing him the next day accomplished a couple things. First, the Twins avoided having to pay Guerrier the $100,000 roster-retention bonus that would have been due to him today. Second, Guerrier's new contract has an earlier opt-out date of May 8, as opposed to June 1 in his original contract.

Guerrier's pay rate and incentives stay the same as under the old contract. MLB Trade Rumors claims Guerrier had hoped to find a big league deal somewhere else, but was apparently unable to do so.

So... welcome back, Matt Guerrier.
