The Kyle Gibson roller coaster went down on Friday night, as two costly extra-base hits did him in during a 6-2 Tampa victory.
The first salvo was a 2-out, bases-loaded double from Evan Longoria in the 3rd. Oswaldo Arcia almost got to it, but he did not.
After a 2-run Trevor Plouffe dong narrowed the lead to one, Ben Zobrist stroked his own dong with a man on to stretch the lead back to three. A Matt Joyce RBI single closed out the scoring, and gave Gibby a line of 6 ER on 9 hits with one strikeout and one walk a piece. He did pitch into the 7th, though! Silver linings!
Apart from the Plouffe dinger, the Twins offense was useless, as the final score indicates. Alex Cobb and three relievers held the Twins to the two aforementioned runs on just six hits. For those hoping Minnesota would continue the offensive surge they began in Colorado prior to the All-Star Game: I'm sorry.
