In case you haven't heard, this year's MLB All-Star Game is being held at Target Field. The rosters announced today include our catcher Kurt Suzuki and home-town star Glen Perkins. Many feel Brian Dozier was an All-Star snub, but with Jose Altuve and Robinson Cano in the American League the race for second baseman representation was apparently just a bit too much.
Pat Neshek was also selected to represent his current St. Louis Cardinals at the All-Star Game. It's the first All-Star Game for Neshek, who is a former Twin and grew up in the Twin Cities.
Also of note, Yankees "Captain" Derek Jeter is coming to the All-Star Game, which will apparently be his last because he is retiring? I heard something like that. Let's all make sure to give him a hand at the game.
Red Sox World Series MVP, David Ortiz, who also tweeted this:
Yo @kevinlove if you need advice on moving from Minnesota to Boston just let me know #CityOfChamps
— David Ortiz (@davidortiz) June 1, 2014
was not selected for the game. Boo. hoo. (In related news, Kevin Love dropped out of the celebrity softball game. Shocker.)
There's also a final vote where fans get to vote on the final member of each league's All-Star Team. This year's final vote includes:
AMERICAN LEAGUE
P Dallas Keuchel, HOU
P Corey Kluber, CLE
P Rick Porcello, DET
P Garrett Richards, LAA
P Chris Sale, CWS
NATIONAL LEAGUE
1B Justin Morneau, COL
2B Anthony Rendon, WAS
1B Anthony Rizzo, CHC
3B Casey McGehee, MIA
OF Justin Upton, ATL
Remember to include #VoteMorneau in all your tweets--each one counts as a vote!
