Recap: Superman Returns! Twins Win 4-2

Joe Mauer propels the Twins in the ninth inning and Minnesota wins the opener in Houston.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Joe Mauer returned to the lineup on Monday after missing 34 games with an oblique injury. Earlier in the day superstar, Mike Berardino asked Joe if he was fully recovered from the injury. He told Berardino that's its something that will linger for the rest of the season. Well let it linger I say! Joe went 2-4 in his return, including a 2-RBI single in the ninth inning giving the Twins a win.

The ultimate Rick Anderson protege in Tommy Milone took the hill for Minnesota. Milone was acquired in the Sam Fuld trade on the July 31st trade deadline. Milone went six innings, surrendering two earned runs and left a handful of runners on the bases. Houston got on the board via the long ball with home runs from Jose Altuve and Christ Carter. Ryan Presley and Brian Duensing kept the game scoreless with Glen Perkins picking up his 29th save.

Danny Santana had a excellent night at the plate collecting multiple hits. Eduardo Escobar stroked his 30th double of year. Eduardo Escobar? 30 doubles? Who would of thunk it. Has Escobar solidified himself as an opening day starter? Where does that leave Danny Santana? Or Jordan Schafer? Or Aaron Hicks? Or Byron Buxton? (ok I will stop) Could the Twins flip something for Escobar this off season? Its a thought for you to discuss!
