Torii Hunter, the uber popular and somehow can do-no-wrong MLB center fielder, has announced his retirement. After talking to his family, he decided this was the right thing to do. Torii played for the Twins, Angels, and Tigers over his 19-year career that included five All-Star Game appearances and nine Gold Glove awards.

Somewhat surprisingly (knowing Torii), Hunter told the Star Tribune he had always planned on 2015 being his last year, but also said, "I didn’t want a going-away tour. I didn’t want to be a distraction."

Other Twins players, the Twins, and his agent, Larry Reynolds, tried to talk Torii out of retiring. However, it seems, this is actually the real deal.

Thank you, Torii.
