Twins option Alex Meyer to Rochester

The competition for the fifth starter's spot is trimmed by one.

Alex Meyer has had an up and down spring training, at times blowing hitters away and in equal measure being unable to hit his spots and quite clearly struggling to repeat his delivery. This was a move that was likely to happen eventually, but the Twins just pulled the trigger.

Meyer made three appearances this spring, striking out six and walking seven in 5.2 innings of work. He'll be a member of the Red Wings' talented rotation, with a cadre of pitchers that should include Tyler Duffey, Taylor Rogers, Jason Wheeler, and probably Trevor May.

The battle for the fifth spot in the rotation is narrowing down as most thought it would, with Tommy Milone and Mike Pelfrey still in the fray and the loser possibly headed for the long relief role.

At some point this summer, health provided, Meyer will make his debut for the Twins. The sooner he can get those mechanics under a bit more control, or at least find a way to be more consistent, we should see him in Minnesota. My question for you is: how soon will that debut be?
