In a 13-hit offensive explosion tonight, the Twins managed to thoroughly trounce the Chicago White Sox in the series opener at Target Field. The offense was highlighted by a Brian Dozier 3-run bomb in the third inning, and Joe Mauer reaching base 3 of 5 times. Oh, and a bunch of doubles (Torii Hunter, Joe Mauer, Chris Herrmann). Sound like a fun game yet? Don't forget that the Twins chased Chris Sale out of the game after their 7 run third inning. Offense!
Sale didn't look sharp from the get-go tonight, and the Twins took great advantage of that, batting around in the bottom of the third. Sale was pulled after three, and the White Sox bullpen wasn't able to fully stifle the rejuvenated Twins offense enough to keep them off the board. Minnesota scored another 3 runs in the bottom of the eighth, with a few singles and a double from Herrmann getting runs across.
Trevor May looked decent tonight. He definitely ran into a couple of rough spots, but for the most part, managed to keep the White Sox off the scoreboard. The two runs came from a few hits adding up in the top of the 3rd, but eventually May settled in and took care of business. Caleb Thielbar, Michael Tonkin (one pitch, one out, good job!), and J.R. Graham finished up the last 3.1 innings for May, and that was that. The Twins take game one of the four game series, and look to keep the momentum going into tomorrow night.
