Phil Hughes pitched seven strong innings, Brian Dozier contributed a home run and two RBIs, and Glen Perkins notched his 100th career save as the Twins edged the Rays 3-2 on Friday.
Hughes allowed two runs in those seven innings, scattering five hits, striking out three and walking one. It was 2-1 Rays in the bottom of the 7th, with Hughes unlikely to come out for the 8th after throwing 100 pitches, when Aaron Hicks led off the inning with a single. Danny Santana followed with a triple to tie the game, and a Dozier sac fly gave the Twins the lead for good.
Blaine Boyer continued to somehow not get blown up, pitching a scoreless 8th. Glen Perkins put two runners on before fielding a comebacker to end the game, notch the aforementioned 100th save, and go 12-for-12 in save opportunities this year.
Good game! Good game!
