Earlier this afternoon we learned Oswaldo Arcia was headed to DL with a hip injury and the Twins have called up Eddie Rosario from Rochester to take his place. Rosario has a slash of .242/.280/.379 which is an OPS of .659 this season with the Red Wings. Heading into 2014 season, Rosario was one of the Twins highest regarded prospects but was suspended for the first 50 games because of a second failed drug test which was believed to be marijuana. After the suspension, Rosario returned to action but looked extremely rusty and had a poor season overall. He elected to play in the Arizona Fall League and elevated his status back to a top prospect hitting .330 in 110 at bats while wowing coaches in spring training too.
Despite another slow start this season, the Twins called Rosario up OVER Aaron Hicks (who is having a phenomenal year in Rochester) to the confusion of most. Now Rosario is not in the lineup tonight as Eduardo Escobar will start in left left against Oakland tonight. But it will be curious to see who gets more time in left with Jordan Schafer and Shane Robinson still on the 25 man roster. Maybe Hicks was passed on because he wouldnt play everyday? But was Rosario brought up here to (mostly) sit? To me its similar to when Danny Santana was called up last year. Now Santana wasn't hitting .240 when he was promoted, but his numbers were pedestrian at best and he took the opportunity and ran with it. Anyway time will tell, until then, welcome to Target Field Eddie Rosario!
