To be honest the Twins could have scored 15 runs today. They loaded the bases in the first with 1 out, but Torii Hunter and Eddie Rosario both struck out. Aaron Hicks was left at 2nd in the 2nd after he hit a double. There were runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 3rd, but neither Hunter nor Rosario could drive them in. In the 4th, Hicks was caught stealing 2nd before Eric Fryer singled, so no damage was done that inning either. In the 5th, Rosario grounded out with runners on 1st and 3rd to end yet another threat.
All of this failing to score runs did drive up Jimenez's pitch count, as he was knocked out after 5 innings, replaced by Bud Norris.
Meanwhile, Tommy Milone was traversing the Orioles lineup effectively. The only run he gave up came on a double play with runners on 1st and 3rd, limiting the damage that inning to just a single run.
Finally, in the 6th with 2 outs, Dozier hit a blast that scored Eric Fryer to give the Twins a 2-1 lead. Have we mentioned that you should #VoteDozier yet? You should go #VoteDozier.
To back that up, Joe Mauer hit a solo dong to left center (6) to make the score 3-1 Twins. The back to back homers were the first this year for the Twins. In the 7th with 2 outs, newly called up Eric Fryer doubled in Rosario and Hicks to give the Twins a 5-1 lead. Welcome to MLB again, Eric.
Casey Fien was brought in to pitch the 8th, and quickly gave up back to back home runs of his own to Manny Machado and Chris Davis. He was able to limit the damage to those 2 solo-home runs, thankfully. Glen Perkins was brought in for the 9th and quickly dispatched the O's for his 28th consecutive save, a Twin's record.
Twins improve to 46-39 and sweep the series. They'll welcome the Tigers to Target Field for a four-game series starting tomorrow.
