This week we go into the Minnesota Twins minor league organization to find the shining talent that we name the Minor League Stars of the Week. Read on to see who we have named for this week's stars and take a moment to answer the poll and comment on any other players you feel that should have been named.
- Cedar Rapids Kernels (A - Low) - Pat Kelly (2B) - Our star for the Kernels this week is Pat Kelly, second baseman for Cedar Rapids. In his past 10 games, Kelly is hitting .313 with 1 RBI and 3 R. For the 2015 season at Cedar Rapids, Kelly is hitting .228 with a .281 OBP, .328 SLG, and a .609 OPS. Pat has scored 37 runs to go with 13 2B, 4 3B, 3 HR, and 30 RBI. On the basepaths, Kelly is 1/4 in stolen bases and in the field has only committed 6 errors on the 2015 campaign.
- Fort Myers Miracle (A - High) - Stephen Gonsalves (P) - This week's star from the Fort Myers Miracle is Stephen Gonsalves, starting pitcher for the Miracle. Gonsalves continues to star in the Twins organization for the Miracle, just as he did for Cedar Rapids earlier in the 2015 season. In his last two starts, Stephen is 1-0 with a 1.39 ERA and has a 11 SO/3 BB ratio. For the 2015 season while with Fort Myers, Gonsalves is 6-1 with a 2.23 ERA and 1 CG. Stephen has pitched 64 2/3 innings for the Miracle and has a 46 SO/31 BB ratio along with a .225 batting average allowed to go with his 1.30 WHIP. Stephen continues to succeed in the minor leagues and looks to make this list again in the future.
- Chattanooga Lookouts (AA) - Niko Goodrum (3B) - Our star from the Chattanooga Lookouts this week is Niko Goodrum, third baseman for the Lookouts. In his last 10 games, Goodrum is hitting .310 with 2 HR, 12 RBI, 9 R, and 1 SB. On the 2015 season, Goodrum is hitting .253 with a .332 OBP, .422 SLG, and a .753 OPS. Niko has scored 28 runs to complement his other stats which include 5 2B, 4 3B, 5 HR, and 18 RBI. On the bases, Niko has swiped 14 of 17 bases and in the field has committed 12 errors while at Chattanooga in 2015.
- Rochester Red Wings (AAA) - Byron Buxton (OF) - This week's star from the Rochester Red Wings is Byron Buxton, outfielder for Rochester. Buxton has been red hot in his past 10 games, which was partially behind his promotion to Minneapolis along with the injury to Aaron Hicks. In his past 10 games at Rochester, Buxton was hitting .395 with 1 HR, 6 RBI, 8 R, and 1 SB. During his stint in Rochester, Byron was hitting .400 with a .441 OBP, .545 SLG, and .986 OPS. In 13 games, Buxton scored 11 runs along with 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, and 8 RBI. On the bases, Buxton was 2/3 in stolen bases and in the field did not commit an error in those 13 games. It will be interesting for Twins fans to see if Buxton can carry that success and confidence with him on his second stint with the Twins in 2015.
