The Twins managed to win what turned out to be a non-pitchers' duel tonight in Tampa Bay against the Rays. Twins started Ervin Santana out non-dueled Rays starter Nathan Karns by giving up five earned runs in 2.2 innings. Karns only gave up five earned runs in 3 innings pitched.
Yes, this game was definitely all offense, and the Twins got it started in the top of the first inning with a three-run home run by Miguel Sano, because, as the great Tyler Mason put it, water is wet and the sky is blue.
Tampa Bay answered back in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs of a Logan Forsythe single, Asdrubal Cabrera triple, and James Loney single, to make the game 3-2 Twins. It continued to see-saw from there: the Twins scored two runs in the top of the 3rd inning, the Rays answered back with three runs in the bottom. The Twins answered with two more runs in the top of the 4th inning, and the Rays scored one run back in the bottom. The Twins scored three in the top of the 5th inning, and the Rays scored one run in the bottom... and so on and so forth.
Here are the highlights:
- Miguel Sano hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning (just felt like brining this up again).
- Brian Dozier hit his team-leading 26th home run of the season in the 4th inning to put the Twins back ahead by two.
- Eddie Rosario hit a solo-home run in the 7th inning, which also ended Rays reliver Xaiver Cedno's streak of 15 consecutive scoreless apperances.
- Eddie Rosario hit his 10th triple of the season, surpassing Tony Oliva's nine triples in 1964 to set the Twins rookie-year record for triples.
