Last year, this would have been a pretty nice pitching match-up. This year, one man has regressed back to his homer-tastic ways, while the other is having a (relatively) slightly down year on the surface in spite of excellent secondary numbers. We're going to see Corey Kluber and Phil Hughes, but even from Kluber's end it won't necessarily be as fun to watch as we'd hope. He recently came off the disabled list and threw only 61 pitches in his first start back, so I can't imagine him ramping it up to 100+ quite yet. Likewise, Hughes is also back from the disabled list and went only three innings in his first start, so this very easily could be a bullpen game for both sides.
According to GameDay, Chris Herrmann has hit .308 in 13 AB against Kluber in his career whereas Kurt Suzuki is hitless in 8 AB, so maybe we'll see Herrmann get the start? (Note: I'm writing this before 8 am). Danny Santana has also hit .286 in 14 AB in Kluber, but I sure hope that Paul Molitor is wise and doesn't put him into the starting lineup. Eduardo Escobar has been hot for the past month or so, and that should take precedence over a history of a couple games for Santana.
