Minnesota Twins Minor League Stars of the Week

New, comments

The 2016 minor league schedule is now underway and it is time for the first installment of the Minnesota Twins Minor League Stars of the Week. In this week's article, we take a look at the past week of minor league baseball in the Minnesota Twins organization and name the Minor League Stars of the Week.

This week we go into the Minnesota Twins minor league organization to find the shining talent that we name the Minor League Stars of the Week.  Read on to see who we have named for this week's stars and take a moment to answer the poll and comment on any other players you feel that should have been named.

  • Cedar Rapids Kernels (A - Low) - LaMonte Wade (OF) - Our star for the Kernels this week is LaMonte Wade, outfielder for Cedar Rapids.  In his first seven games to start the 2016 campaign, Wade is hitting .385 (10/26) with 3 2B, 1 3B,  4 RBI, 3 R, 5 BB, and 1 SB.  Wade showed flashes of promise in the second half of 2015 and if he continues to play at this level, he may be one of the next Kernels players to follow Chris Paul to Fort Myers.
  • Fort Myers Miracle (A - High) - Nick Gordon (SS) - This week's star from the Fort Myers Miracle is Nick Gordon, shortstop for the Miracle.  In his first seven games of the 2016 season, Gordon is hitting .367 (11/30) with 4 2B, 1 RBI, 3 R, and 2 SB.  Early on, Gordon is settling in fine at Fort Myers and if the offensive production from Nick continues near this level, he should be in Chattanooga no later then the start of the 2017 season.
  • Chattanooga Lookouts (AA) - Daniel Palka (OF) - Our star from the Chattanooga Lookouts this week is Daniel Palka, outfielder for the Lookouts.  In his first six games at Chattanooga, Palka is hitting .348 (8/23) with 2 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, and 4 R.  Palka showed to be a solid run producer in the 2015 Arizona Fall League and looks to be continuing where he left off in 2016 at AA.  Look for Palka to make a smooth transition to AAA and could be there before the end of 2016.
  • Rochester Red Wings (AAA) - Jose Berrios (P) - This week's star from the Rochester Red Wings is Jose Berrios, starting pitcher for Rochester.  In his first start of the 2016 season for the Red Wings, Berrios continued to rack up strikeouts and has started off 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA. Jose pitched five innings in his first start striking out nine, while walking four.  Berrios still needs to fine tune his control as giving almost one free pass per inning will not help his development at the major league level.  He still is on track though to be in a Twins uniform by the All-Star break and depending on the Twins play, may push to be up here even sooner.
(Stats are through Wednesday, 4/13 games)
