Kyle Gibson had absolutely nothing on Friday night and the Washington Nationals took full advantage, jumping on the Twins starter for four in the first inning on their way to an easy 8-4 win over the Twins.
Instead of buckling down after a rough start that included a bases loaded HBP, Gibson was tagged for three more runs in the third, effectively ending any hope of a Twins comeback. His finishing line: 3 IP, 7 ER, and 2 BB. His record is 0-3 with a 6.10 ERA, mirroring his terrible start to last year. A rebound similar to 2015's is needed.
The Twins offense did at least show some life in garbage time. Miguel Sano notched his third dong of the season, and Eduardo Nunez continued his very productive start with a 2-run single.
With the exception of a Jayson Werth dinger, Michael Tonkin was adequate in three innings of mop-up duty.
Studs: Werth, who hit the aforementioned home run and robbed same from Byron Buxton.
Duds: Gibson.
