Twins 4, Indians 3: I will walk-off 4 u

Marilyn Indahl-USA TODAY Sports

It was a bit touch-and-go for the Twins tonight. Thankfully, Oswaldo Arcia was able to step-up in the bottom of the 9th inning and hit a walk-off home run, saving the team from even more extra innings and the ultra-embarrassment of losing on Prince Tribute Night.

Scoring was rather even for most of the night, even though it felt like the Twins were down 20-0 when it was only 1-0. Joe Mauer, being the true Minnesota boy that he is, hit a double in the bottom of the 1st inning (4 Prince) that was impressive. Unfortunately, the Twins wouldn't get another hit until Danny Santana ripped one in the 5th. In fact, the Twins wound up with only 5 hits overall, compared to the 12 hits by the Indians.

The Tribe did score first, in the top of the 2nd inning, off a Marlon Byrd line-drive single to left field. Rajai Davis scored the second run in the top of the 5th thanks to a missed catch error by Kurt Suzuki. The Twins scored three runs in the bottom of that inning to take back the lead 3-2 (for Prince).

Yan Gomes of the Cleveland Indians apparently, however, hates Prince, because he hit a line-drive home run off Ryan Pressly in the top of the 8th to tie things back up at 3-3.

I really thought the Twins were going to blow this one. Blow this one, on Prince Tribute Night, of all nights. But, thankfully, I was wrong. Oswaldo Arcia came to the plate in the bottom of the 9th, sung the bat, and said, "THIS IS 4 U, PRINCE, YOU SEXY MOTHERFUC---"

  • Unless you were living under a rock, you know it was Prince Tribute Night at Target Field. The Twins released 7 (Prince's favorite number) doves off the pitching mound before the game, wore purple arm bands, used purple graphics the whole night, and all used Prince songs for their walk-up music.
  • Umpires were really quick on the Balk Trigger tonight, calling two balks--one against the Indians, and one against the Twins. What's up with that? 2 funky 2 pitch.
  • Byung Ho Park played first base tonight, and made several magical, "WTF JUST HAPPENED?" defensive plays, including this one.
