Phil Hughes got roughed up in the first inning, but was able to pitch 6 innings regardless. The damage came on back to back jacks by Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson. Donaldson, who was wrongfully ejected yesterday, had some choice spit for the Twins dugout as he crossed home plate. The Jays got another run in the inning to give them a 3-0 lead.
Phil Hughes tried to hit Donaldson his next time up (and missed, twice), this didn't sit well with the Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, who came out and was tossed.
That turned out to be more than enough to best the Twins today, as they could not do anything against Marcus Stroman. They tallied just 1 hit through 7 innings against him. In the 8th they finally got a rally started, but it was halted by a double play off the bat of Brian Dozier. Their only run came in the second on a Kurt Suzuki ground-out with runners on 2nd and 3rd.
Speaking of Kurt, he got his 1,000th career hit in the 8th inning today. That was one of the few positives from this game.
Michael Tonkin striking out the side in the 8th was probably the other positive.
Kurt Suzuki - Mr. 1000
Michael Tonkin - Did not give up the runs.
Brian Dozier - Starting to think Jorge Polanco would be better at this point.
Pretty much the rest of the Twins lineup
