Byron Buxton's seven-game hitting streak may have ended yesterday, but his hitting efforts over the last week are hardly going unnoticed. Buxton was named Batter of the Week by the AAA International League office, and also won something called the Batavia Downs Gaming and Racetrack Player of the Week. I'm just going to go ahead and make up my own award now too, so congratulations, Buxton, on winning your third weekly award by being named the Twinkie Town Triple-A Total Show-Off of the Week.
Buxton won these prestigious awards by leading the league in several offensive categories last week, including runs scored (8), extra-base hits (7), total bases (23), slugging percentage (1.045), and OPS (1.564). Buxton scored a run in the first inning of all 6 games the Red Wings played last week. He also hit a home run in three straight games, which may or may not have inspired Joe Mauer and Miguel Sano to copy him in the big leagues.
All this good work begs the question: Is a Buxton recall imminent?
