Know Thine Enemy: The Crawfish Boxes
The two teams have split the first two games of this series. J.R. Graham was called up after yesterday's game to replace the demoted Alex Meyer, but I assume his stay will be short as it sounds like Ervin Santana will be activated in time for Saturday's game. Plus, the whole fact that Graham wasn't pitching well in Triple-A anyway thanks to an absolute lack of control, so his promotion feels more like a "we need an arm and he's on the 40-man roster" rather than "we need an arm and he's the most deserving."
Oswaldo Arcia makes the start in LF tonight which is good because I was starting to wonder if Molitor had forgotten who he was again. Like, he kept looking down the dugout and thought, "Is that the Spanish interpreter? No... is that Guardado? No, not enough pranking going on. Rosario? I can't figure it out!" John Ryan Murphy is also starting, perhaps because
As usual, Phil Hughes will need to keep the ball in the ballpark to have success today. Those Crawford Boxes are mighty tempting though, so keeping the Astros hitters off-balance with his fastball/cutter/knuckle-curve combo will be key. Facing him is Mike Fiers who has struggled himself with allowing far too many round-trippers. In addition, Fiers isn't striking out as many hitters this season as he has in his career. He has cut his walk rate to Hughesian levels though, so if you're a fan of defense and dingers, tonight's the night for you.
Oh, and Byung Ho Park has blasted a triple to the flagpole in center field, he's upper-tanked a baseball to the opposite field, all that's remaining is him aiming for the train tracks atop the wall in left field. Get ready, Thomas the Tank Engine... this one's for you.
