Marlins got off to an early, but not insurmountable lead in the game, scoring a run off a Marcell Ozuna RBI double in the 1st and another on a Adeiny Hechavarria blooper in the 2nd. Twins kept it close and Santana managed to keep the Marlins from scoring further through the 6th.
It looked like things were turning the Twins way in the 6th. With two outs, both Byron Buxton and Eduardo Nunez managed to get on base, and "Robo" Robbie Grossman continued to be awesome by hitting a double to center field bringing them home to tie the game. Marlin's starter Tom Koehler intentionally walked Joe Mauer to pitch to Trevor Plouffe. Koehler immediately threw a wild pitch and Robbie took third base... and then... and then? Then Plouffe grounded out to the second baseman to end the threat.
It's always brightest just before things go pitch black. In the 7th inning everything fell apart for the Twins. Santana gave up three more hits and another run to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead at that point. Trevor May was called in and threw a wild pitch that let another run to score and then allowed another three runs while managing to not record a single out before he was pulled. Taylor Rogers came in, giving up a two run HR and the inning didn't end until the Marlins had batted around.
The Marlins tacked on another run off of reliever Phil Hughes in the 8th before he took a come-backer on the knee and had to leave the game.
The Twins managed to get one last run on a passed ball, but that was as close as it was going to get. Marlins won 10-3.
