Game LXVIII: Yankees @ Twins

It's game 3 of a four-game slaughter series.

This disturbed man is an A-Rod stalker. Most Yankees thing about the photo is a kid smiling/waving.

Hey, remember when everyone was screaming "gosh darnit, why don't the Twins use more advanced metrics." Well, they listened to you (or, more likely, just did what pretty much every other team was doing.) And this led them to sign Ricky Nolasco, whose FIP (a measure of things pitchers can control, like strikeouts) was lower than his ERA.

As it is this season. As it will be for all eternity. Ricky Nolasco is the guy who breaks FIP. I don't know why this is. Digits:

ERA H/9 K/9 BB/9 HR/9 OPS v L/R BAbip FIP
Tricky Ricky 5.12
10.1
7.9
1.6
1.0
.753/.772 .329
3.47
Mike Pineda 5.88
11.3
9.9
2.4
1.5
.944/.831
.371
4.06

Yankees starter Michael Pineda was an All-Star in his rookie season, then suffered a labrum tear in his shoulder. He hasn't quite been the same since. This winter, the New York Post suggested Pineda should "take conditioning more seriously." Because part of the job application to be a New York Post writer involves listing two references who will certify you are an utterly unrepentant asshole. Pineda throws a fastball, slider and change; pre-injury, the slider was his out pitch.
