Twins Trounce Tampa: Rays 4, Twins 6

Despite Phil Hughes getting knocked out early, Twins beat Rays 4-6

"HAHA! DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?"
"HAHA! DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?"
Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

So literally right off the bat, Eduardo Nunez hit a lead-off inside the park home run, a Target Field first. I'm just surprised it was a Twin that did it first but here's video proof:

Top of the 3rd, the Rays got a couple of RBI singles to take the lead with two runs of their own. Twins came back in the 4th with two more runs, Max Kepler doubled bringing in Robbie Grossman and then Byung-Ho Park came in on a Byron Buxton sac fly.

In the 5th, Phil Hughes who seemed to pitch like a magnet to the center of the strike zone finally came undone. After Grossman fumbled a single by Brad Miller who advanced to 2nd, Evan Longoria nailed home run to left field taking the lead again. That was the end for Hughes. And if you're like me, and I know I am, you were probably thinking, "Here we go again," or something unsuitable for print or family blogs anyway. Not so fast, smarty-pants!

Dozier tied it up with a solo HR to left in the 5th. Not enough Brian Dozier you say? In the 6th, Rays pitcher intentionally walked Joe Mauer in order to get to Dozier. Dozier instead gets plunked for a bases loaded HBP. Twins got another run after Mad Max hit Park in again with another RBI single. Kevin Jepsen came in and got the save, yes, he got the save.

Matt Moore 5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Phil Hughes 4.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2K
