Ben Rortvedt goes to the Twins at pick #56 in the second round. Here's the write up on him from Minor League Ball:
Rortvedt is a bat-first catching prospect. His defensive tools are good enough that he should be able to stick at catcher. And he's got one of the better prep bats in the class. He's got a good eye, and nice line drive power from the left side, with the potential to add home run power. He could be a player that surprises folks and sneaks into the back of the first round, but he should be gone by the end of the first three rounds. -Source
The 18 year old from Wisconsin is ranked as the 5th best catcher in the draft this year at Minor League Ball, and is one of the best hitting prep catchers in the draft. I think his ceiling is .270 with 20 HR power. With this pick, the Twins add depth and a solid prospect.
What do you guys think?
That's all for the Twins in the draft today. The Twins have 2 more picks tonight, 73 and 74 (from not signing Kyle Kody last year) in lottery round B.
Tomorrow is rounds 3-10 starting at 1:00 PM. I'll get an open thread going tomorrow for that.
