Twins 4, Braves 2: Mauer, Plouffe back another Santana W

Ervin Santana pitched 7 shut out innings in what was for the most part, a pitchers duel of a game. Trevor Plouffe snagged the Twins a run early, doubling in Joe Mauer in the first, and that is exactly where the score stayed until the 8th.

Minnesota applied pressure in the 8th with Mauer's 10th homerun of the year as well as a Kurt Suzuki single scoring Plouffe. The tandem of Taylor Rogers and Ryan Pressly ran into some trouble the following half-inning when Atlanta's Matt Kemp doubled in a run, and Nick Markakis followed him up with an RBI ground out. Pressly then got the third out to avoid a total meltdown.

Plouffe struck again in the 9th with an RBI single to give Twins fans everywhere a little more room to breath. Brandon Kintzler wouldn't need it though, slamming the door for his 12th save of the year. Man, that guy sure has been a pleasant surprise!

Santana (6-9) earned the win. Atlanta starter Joel De La Cruz (0-6) gets the loss despite only allowing one run. Poor guy.

Also Eddie Rosario took two walks today so clearly the world will be wiped out tomorrow by a biblical flood. Its been sweet, guys.

STUDS:

Ervin Santana: 7 IP, 0 ER, 6 Ks
Joe Mauer: 3 for 4 with a solo homer.
Trevor Plouffe: 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and a run.
