The Motor City Marmalades are still on the prowl for a Wild Card spot and a win today would help them in their quest to play in something called, "the playoffs." I've heard of such things, but am not convinced it's not a myth like the "Apollo missions" or "global warming." The Twins are not encumbered by such fantasies and get to play for the pure love of the game and are hoping to split the series.
Our old friend "Smilin' Mike" Pelfrey (RHP, 4-9, 4.76 ERA) returns to the Orange Tabbies starting rotation today. Mike was on the DL in August with a back strain and hasn't pitched in the majors since July 31st. The Twins faced Pelfrey twice last May and have a combined .349 BA against him.
You might remember Pelf from such hits as, "Ain't Miss Beehive-in' " and "Onward, Wichita!"
Hector Santiago, ver. 2.0 (LHP, 11-8, 4.75 ERA) has had three quality starts in a row with a 1.86 ERA in those starts (Now watch me jinx him) since recovering from a sore thumb. Hector hasn't faced the Ginger Cats since he was traded to the Twins. J.D. Martinez and Miguel Cabrera have each knocked a pair of homers off of Santiago over his MLB career.
The powers that be at FSN decided not to shell out for this game and are airing UEFA Soccer instead. So you better do as you are told, you better listen to the radio.
