Low A: Cedar Rapids Kernels 11, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3
The Kernels collected 17 hits in this game as the Kernels demolished the Rattlers 11-3 in the first game of the Mid-West League playoffs. 1B Zander Wiel, DH Travis Blankenhorn, and RF J.J. Fernandez hit back-to-back-to-back doubles to lead off the 6th inning, which was the Kernels’ biggest of the lopsided game (five runs). Wiel ended up a home run short of the cycle, 2B Luis Arraez hit TWO triples, and Blankenhorn also had a triple too.
It was awesome. There was a lot of scoring.
But, there was pitching too! SP Lachlan Wells struck-out nine batters. He lasted 5 innings and gave up four hits and two walks, and it was good enough for the offical “win”.
Kernels lead the series 1-0
