Low A: Cedar Rapids Kernels 3, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 1

With a 3-1 win yesterday, the Kernels took the best-of-three series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and will advance to face the Clinton LumberKings in the Western Division Championship Series. It’s the third year in a row the Kernels have advanced to that series.

All of the runs in this game were scored in the 3rd inning. The Timber Rattlers took a 1-0 lead when SS Luis Aviles scored on an RBI single by CF Corey Ray in the top of that inning. That lead, however, was brief.

In the bottom of the inning, the Kernels sent eight men to the plate and got four hits leading to three runs. CF Casey Scoggins led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by 2B Luis Arraez. 1B Zander Wiel followed up with an RBI triple to put the Kernels ahead 2-1. DH Travis Blankenhorn then drove in Wiel with a single to make it 3-1.

Oh yeah—Arraez, who was the Midwest League Batting Champion BTW—went 4-for-4 in the game with a stolen base, an RBI, and a run scored.

SP Eduardo Del Rosario started for the Kernels and was great. Lasting 6 innings, Rosario only gave up the one earned run on five hits, one walk, and one hit batter. He also struck out five.
