Twins 6, Rays 6: Joe Mauer and Jason Castro homer

That is not a misprint—Joe actually went the yard today.

Hector Sanitago made his last start of the spring today, looking good with only one earned on six hits run over 5.1 innings. Santiago was backed up by dingers from former catcher Joe Mauer and current catcher Jason Castro, but it wasn’t enough for a win, though, since no one really cares and oh my god how is it still spring training!?

Ryan Pressly put in some work today and got knocked around by the Rays lineup. Over his, uh, 0.0 innings pitched—because he failed to get even a single out—Pressly gave up two hits and two walks, leading to four earned runs because apparently all of them scored. Yay?

Craig Breslow pitched one inning, which was perfect, and Taylor also went an inning, giving up only a hit.

Robbie Grossmanwho will be the Twins Opening Day DH—went 1-for-3 with a strikeout. He batted ninth, by the way. A designated hitter batting ninth. Gotta love it.

Notes

  • The Twins will play a game against the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings tomorrow at noon.
  • The Twins signed Paul Clemens, who was released by the Padres, to add some starting pitching depth at Triple-A.
