Twinkie Town is looking for new staff members!

Want to write, podcast, or create graphics about the Minnesota Twins on a big platform? Here’s your chance.

Are you a Twins fan looking to strengthen your baseball writing skills, experience, and credentials? Do you want to have fun while doing all that? If so, you’re in the right place!

That’s because we here at Twinkie Town are currently looking to add new contributors to our already robust and talented staff. Not just writers either, but anyone interested in baseball or sports digital media content creation in the broader sense.

What does that mean? It means we’re looking for any individuals who want to contribute in at least one of the following areas:

  • Writers (duh)
  • Podcast creators/producers
  • Video editors (typical vlogging, hosting a Facebook Live show, and/or creating slideshow videos for sharing on social media)
  • Graphic designers (whether photo-shoppers, artists, t-shirt designers, etc.)
  • Social Media

Obviously, as a blog, we are quite interested in adding new writers. We want to add new voices to our team in one or more of the following subjects:

  • Analysis
  • Opinion
  • Minor league coverage (helping with daily Farm Reports and/or otherwise)
  • Amateur draft coverage
  • Breaking news (ideal for those with flexible schedules)
  • Series previews
  • Morning news roundups/link dumps/open threads
  • Game coverage (game threads and recaps)
  • Any other unique content

If you’re still reading this—great! Then maybe you’re interested.

Are you still not sure if this is a fit for you, though? That’s okay—not even I was sure I was cut out for being a blogger when I joined the Twinkie Town staff, or even when I became the site manager. Generally, though, we’re looking for people with one or more of these characteristics, in rough order of importance:

  1. You have a deep passion for and/or knowledge of the Minnesota Twins and baseball.
  2. You love to write (or create other content), and want to develop your skills and reach more people.
  3. You’re reliable and won’t flake-out after two weeks.
  4. You’re at least somewhat interested in how websites work, the internet, and especially in learning more about how to maximize viewership through headline construction, SEO practices, etc.
  5. You find working with a team of other SB Nation writers and contributors from many many different teams appealing.
  6. You can take suggestions and feedback without wigging out.
  7. You have one or more Nick Punto jokes to add to our semi-secret, doomsday arsenal (or, in other words, you just have at least some tinge of a sense of humor/fun).

Still reading? Awesome!

Just a quick note on what this opportunity is not: a full-time job, or even a part-time job. No one at this website—including me, myjah, the site manager—does this as their day job. Most of our contributors are not paid, and the couple who are only receive nominal beer or pizza money.

What can we—Twinkie Town and SB Nation—provide you, though? A large platform where your work will be seen by thousands of people. Editing advice and support to help perfect your articles. Constant ideas for topics to write about (I can even give you writing assignments, if you want). Access to a large network of friendly and awesome SB Nation writers from many different teams who want to help you. Honest criticism, advice, and analysis to help you grow as a writer and/or digital contributor. Updates on all the best internet publishing and SEO practices. Future employment references. And, heck, if we can be consistent and build this website up enough, even a little money down the road.

How to apply

If you’re interested in becoming a Twinkie Town writing contributor, please e-mail me, myjah, at maija.varda@gmail.com with the following:

  • Two (or more) writing samples - At least 300 words each, and one must be baseball-related. If you do not have a baseball-related writing sample, write a FanPost and link to that. Unpublished writing works as well. You can create your own version of a Farm Report, Game Recap, Series Preview, or other content.
  • A resume (OPTIONAL, but helpful!)
  • Answers to the following questions:
  1. Why do you want to become a Twinkie Town contributor?
  2. What is your current SB Nation user name (or none, if you don’t have one)?
  3. How often do you think you can, or would you like to, contribute?
  4. What would you like to write about (one or more of the topics listed above, or a pitch for your own unique idea)?
  5. Who is your favorite Twins player of all time and why?

If you are interested in applying to be a non-writing contributor at Twinkie Town, just e-mail me, myjah, at maija.varda@gmail.com explaining what you are interested in contributing and why you are interested. An example of your work would be helpful.

Please e-mail your applications to maija.varda@gmail.com by the end of the day on Sunday, April 30th, 2017.
