The day that we've wanted every single day throughout this young season has finally arrived: Jose Berrios is making his first start in 2017 for the Twins. Though he struggled last season, it's undeniable that he might offer the most promise out of any pitcher on this staff (except perhaps Ervin Santana) and it's about time that he shows that he can deliver. In order for him to be successful, he'll have to show more command of his pitches around the strike zone, because his problem last year was that hitters laid off his pitches out of the zone and then crushed the ones in the strike zone.
Facing him is young righty Mike Clevinger who is continuing the "long hair, don't care" trend amongst starting pitchers. He also debuted last season and pitched okay, and his success will be predicated on his ability to command his pitches, just like Berrios. This could be a pitching matchup that we become accustomed to seeing over the next few years.
