Ervin Santana got roughed up early and often today. He seemed to have trouble finding the strike zone and some miscues by the defense didn’t help. He gave up a solo second-decker to Nolan Arenado in the 1st. After a 1-2-3 2nd, the Rockies were able to string together a combination of a walk, singles and bad Twins throws to score three more runs in the 3rd. A great throw by Max Kepler prevented the Rockies from scoring another run and ended the inning. An RBI single by “Encino Man,” Charlie Blackmon extended the Rockies lead to 5-0.

The Twins rallied in the 5th, Brian Dozier hit a sac fly to bring in Eddie Rosario who had tripled and was waiting at third. The Twins threatened to score more but a Miguel Sano pop out ended the inning. They did manage to knock German Marquez out of the game after that inning. 5-1 Rockies.

Santana stayed in the game, I presume to rest the bullpen and pitched for seven innings. Ryan Pressly came in in the 8th and struck out five of the six batters he faced.

Twins threatened to score again in the 9th with two runners on, Dozier at the plate and two outs, Greg Holland came in to strike Brian out and get the save.
