Twins recall Buddy Boshers

The Twins bullpen has been doing its best impression of the Titanic lately, so might as well rearrange some deck chairs.

After Sunday’s six hour and twenty-six minute marathon game and Monday’s game-that-shall-not-be-spoken-of, the Twins bullpen is in need of some help. The Twins called up Drew Rucinski and Jason Wheeler for Monday’s game (and inexplicably only used Rucinski and only used him once the lead was lost), but are now sending Rucinski back down to Triple-A and recalling our friend Buddy Boshers.

Please, don’t everyone get so excited all at once.

What has our Buddy been up to since he was last sent down to the minors on May 3rd? Well, he’s pitched 8.2 innings for the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings, giving up only three earned runs (meaning he’s had a 3.12 ERA). He’s also struck out nine batters. At the major league level this year, Buddy has pitched only three innings and given up one run on a solo dong.

I mean, it could be worse for the Twins bullpen right now, right? Right?!

The Twins just don’t have a ton of options right now. J.T. Chargois is still on the DL, though reportedly getting closer to a return. Nick Tepesch is on the DL. Felix Jorge is still trying to get more like in Double-A. Nick Burdi was off to a strong starting in Double-A, but now needs Tommy John surgery. I suppose Mason Melotakis would have been a possible call-up in theory, but the Twins decided not to go that way. Other than that, the they’d would have to go for someone not on the 40-man.

So... welcome back, Buddy.
