Giants 13, Twins 8: Bullpen woes continue

The Twins lead 5-3 at one point in this game, and then they were blown out.

Nik Turley’s first major league inning was a bit shaky. Kelby Tomlinson lead off with a single, and then old friend Eduardo Nunez hit a double. A sac fly and an RBI groundout would score both runners. Turley would settle down after that, though.

The Twins answered those runs with solo HRs by Eduardo Escobar and Byron Buxton to tie the game at 2.

The Giants broke the tie in the 4th, on a Nick Hundley RBI single. Turley was in a jam but faced the 8-9-1 batters to get out of the inning. 3-2, Giants.

In the 5th, Brian Dozier walked and Joe Mauer followed with a single. Miguel Sano hit a long fly ball for an out, but both runners advanced. Robbie Grossman spanked a 2-run single to center to put the Twins in front 4-3. Robbie stole 2nd, and then Escobar drove him in with a single.

In the bottom of the 5th, Buster Posey drove in Eduardo Nunez with a single to make it a 1-run game. Turley didn’t finish the 5th, his final line was: 4 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K. Chris Heston finished the 5th inning, allowing an inherited run to score. That line is a bit misleading in my opinion, he didn’t look too bad.

After Buddy Boshers pitched a clean 6th, Matt Belisle came in to pitch the 7th. He gave up 4 runs on 4 hits and a walk, and Alex Wimmers had to finish that inning. 8-5, Giants.

Craig Breslow was sent in to pitch the 8th, and he kinda just made this a laugher. 5 more runs scored, and it was 13-5. The Twins bullpen was a disaster today.

In the 9th, the Twins tried to make things interesting by scoring 3 runs, but it wasn’t enough.

On the plus side, the Twins won the series and had a 6-4 road trip. They return to Target Field to face the Mariners tomorrow.
